Sue Seifert

The Independent

Sue Seifert started teaching in Islington in 1968 and never looked back. She started as a deputy headteacher at Laycock Primary before moving into the headteacher role at Thornhill Primary. Whilst still Head at Thornhill, Seifert took on a role as ‘Troubleshooting Head’, ending up at Montem Primary where she stayed until she retired. Even after ‘retirement’, she continued to work as an Executive Head until she decided to fully retire.

Seifert has an immovable ethos of inclusivity and the pursuit of children’s rights. She set up loads of initiatives to help children and parents in the poorer areas that she worked in, and never shied away from a problem. Seifert was very hands-on, running play clubs in her own office, as well as cleaning classrooms and organising supply closets, all whilst maintaining high standards for the children.

Seifert continues to be an inspirational force today, not only having changed the lives of those who attended her schools, but also by promoting a way of teaching that was child-focused, not results-focused. We are very proud of her legacy.
