Anita Grant & Suzanne Lee
Anita Grant and Suzanne Lee established Islington 4 Women in 2017. The two women met when they were nominated as ‘Bold Women for Change’ in Islington, and the rest is history. Both equally outraged by the Radio 4 report which claimed Islington to be the worst place for women, they decided to create Islington 4 Women to do something about it. They have been instrumental in increasing women’s safety in Islington, organising events such as guided walks for women, logging safety concerns with the police, and now writing this book!
Anita Grant is the CEO of Islington Play Association and the chair of Play England. She spent the majority of her life in Islington, raising three children there, and continues to commute. She is extremely passionate about play and has been a powerhouse in promoting children’s rights, especially during the pandemic.
Suzanne Lee is the Artistic Director at All Change, an organisation she has been involved with since 1991. Suzanne is passionate about art and community, valuing collaboration and partnerships and their role in creating a more equal society.
“That is what Islington 4 Women is about,” said Mrs Grant, “it’s about how amazing so many women in Islington are and the things they have done.”
These two are definitely modern-day pioneers, continuing to inspire those across Islington, and make meaningful change.
